Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in women, the incidence of which is gradually increasing, despite the effectiveness of breast cancer screening based on mammography.
Thus, according to US data, from 2000 to 2015, the incidence gradually increased among women aged 40 to 49, but increased more noticeably from 2015 to 2019 with an average annual increase of 2.0%.

The most effective means of early diagnosis of breast cancer today is screening mammography, the main goal of which is to detect pathological changes in the mammary glands in the initial stages, when the disease is not yet manifested by clinical symptoms. However, given that this is an X-ray examination, it has certain risks.

To achieve maximum benefit from screening, the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) conducts its own research and makes recommendations on the effectiveness of screening mammography.

Evidence Assessment:

• The USPSTF concludes with moderate confidence that biennial screening mammography in women 40 to 74 years of age has a modest net benefit.
• The USPSTF concludes that the evidence is insufficient to determine the balance of benefits and harms of screening mammography in women 75 years of age and older.
• The USPSTF concludes that the evidence is insufficient to determine the balance of benefits and harms of additional breast cancer screening with breast ultrasound or breast MRI, regardless of breast density.
